“We were looking at parcels of land that were attractive in many ways - flat, non-wetland and with utility areas.” “We began the process on Google Maps, looking at parcels of land where we are experiencing the most growth,” said Gorski, who noted that the south quadrant is where the district is observing the most student growth. Gorski said he and Jerry Tague, director of facilities for the district, divided the township into four quadrants: north quadrant, which is the area around Mill Lake and Woodland Elementary schools lower central quadrant, which is the area around Barclay Brook and Brookside Elementary schools mid-central quadrant, which is the area around the high school and middle school and the south quadrant, which is around the area of Applegarth and Oak Tree elementary schools.

“The most undefined is size and scope of the project, and without that we cannot really get a handle on how much the tax component is,” Gorski said, adding that the district will disclose more details once the project is in focus. He said as for the cost of a referendum, it depends on many variables, such as interest costs and the ratable growth in Monroe, which is a favorable variable that would reduce the tax rate and taxes for the residents in the township. Gorski said the district currently has $97,500 budgeted in its capital reserves, noting that when a land parcel is procured it is customary procedure to hold a bond referendum. He said the probable solution, which was a culmination of a year’s worth of work involving a number of stakeholders including the Student Growth Advisory Committee, is the construction of a new middle school and elementary school in Monroe Township. “It is now projected we will have 2,500 unhoused students in the next five years.” “We currently have 1,500 unhoused students,” said School Business Administrator Michael Gorski, explaining that unhoused students are defined as students beyond the capacity of the current schools. Monroe Township currently has six elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
